But it was only in the garage!

Several years ago a small fire started in my attached garage, I eventually found the fire extinguisher was fully charged, but within about 15 seconds its entire contents had been emptied This wasn't quite enough to get the fire out. I then ran to the back yard in the dark to get the garden hose. It didn't reach. By then, cans of paint thinner and other chemicals had also caught on fire, making it all the more difficult to control.

Later, the Fire Chief later told me that a fire usually doubles its size every 60 seconds. It took the fire department 14 minutes to arrive and by then, the garage was in full flame with smoke beginning to fill the entire house.

Significant damage had been done to almost half of our house. The total damage and repairs added up to $80,000. In retrospect I see that proper planning could have saved us a lot of grief.

Thank You Home Fireman!!!

We installed two "Home Fireman" in our home, one in the crawl space. We were concerned about the several minutes response time to get help to our home. The Home Fireman seemed to fit the bill for self help until the fire department arrived.

On 29 April, 1996 at approximately 9:30 P.M., there was a lightning strike while we were watching TV. When Barbara turned on the light in the kitchen and dining area, it was filled with white smoke. I directed her to call 911 and get the fire department on the way.

There was a fire under the kitchen! The propane gas line (to the furnace) was leaking flaming gas!! (it was burning through the floor). I then grabbed the water hose in The Home Fireman turned on the water on.

The Fire department responded very promptly but the fire truck went past our driveway by almost one and a half miles and had to call for directions again!!!! Shortly, the fire truck arrived to finish of the fire. The fire stopped just inches short of going vertical into the walls.

If we had not installed The Home Fireman and talked about its use, this fire would have cost us our home!!!!! Thank you for The Home Fireman!!!!!!!!
